The UP Experience is pleased to welcome actor, author, and educator Tony Danza, best known for his leading roles on the hit TV series Taxi and Who’s the Boss? Tony’s acting career also includes nominations for an Emmy Award and four Golden Globe Awards. In 1998, he won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Male Performer in a New Television Series for his work on the 1997 sitcom The Tony Danza Show.

Established on both stage and screen, Tony’s stage credits include Mel Brook’s hit Broadway musical The Producers, as well as his theatrical debut in Wrong Turn at Lungfish, in which he earned an Outer Critic’s Circle Award nomination. Among Tony’s big-screen credits are his roles in Walt Disney’s Angels in the Outfield, She’s Out of Control, The Hollywood Knights, and A Brooklyn State of Mind.

In 2009, Tony took on his most challenging role yet – teaching tenth-grade English at Philadelphia’s Northeast High School. His incredible experience was taped and aired on A&E on the critically acclaimed seven-part documentary series Teach. In 2010, he received an AARP Inspire Award, which pays tribute to extraordinary people who inspire others to action through their innovative thinking, passion, and perseverance.

His experience as a teacher is also chronicled in a new book released this month by Crown Publishers (a division of Random House) titled I’d Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had: My Year as a Rookie Teacher at Northeast High. Tony now travels the country promoting the importance of education and inspiring audiences to do their part to support teachers across America.
