Our 15th UP Speaker is…

The UP Experience is pleased to welcome Dr. Boaz Almog, a research physicist at Tel Aviv University in Israel. During his UP presentation, “The Future of Quantum Physics,” Dr. Almog will demonstrate the phenomenon of “quantum locking” and will actually levitate a superconductor on the UP stage. This demonstration is the result of many years of research and development on high-quality superconductors and, although well known to physicists worldwide, has never been seen and demonstrated in such a compelling way.

So just how is it possible for a super-thin, three-inch disk to levitate something 70,000 times its own weight? In this fascinating, futuristic demonstration, Dr. Almog will show how quantum levitation allows a superconductor disk to float over a magnetic rail – completely frictionless and with zero energy loss.

Dr. Almog is part of the superconductivity group at Tel Aviv University, which is currently developing new technologies and applications for superconductors. The group is also dedicated to teaching and educating children and adults about superconductivity around the world.

To learn more about the incredible work of Dr. Boaz Almog, and to witness quantum levitation at work, sign UP today.

Our 14th UP Speaker is…

The UP Experience is pleased to welcome Ed Conard, author of the recently-released New York Times bestseller, Unintended Consequences: Why Everything You’ve Been Told About the Economy is Wrong.

In his new book, Conard attempts to set the record straight and fill the void left by other business and economic analysts. As a result, Conard has had many passionate and, at times, heated debates with personalities including Jon Stewart of The Daily Show, Economist Joe Stiglitz, CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, and Governor Rendell on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. In addition, Conard has been featured in the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review, C-SPAN, CNBC, Bloomberg, and more.

A partner at Bain Capital from 1993 to 2007, Conard served as the head of Bain’s New York office and led the firm’s acquisitions of large industrial companies. He currently resides on several boards of directors including Waters Corporation and Sensata Technologies. He holds an MBA from Harvard and a BSE in Operations Research from the University of Michigan.
